🍇 Top 10 Vineyard recommendations

Your guide to the best tasting experiences in Bolgheri, Montescudaio, and the surrounding hills

We get so much pleasure out of trying to make sure all of our guests have the best possible holiday experience. As such, we are always happy to give local tips and insights ahead of any stay. We can suggest Tuscan holiday itineraries, help with private chef recommendations and even help you organise a unique weaving experience. Ask away.

That said, one of the most frequent questions we get, understandably given our proximity to the wonderful wine region, is:

Which vineyards would we recommend to visit?

This corner of the Etruscan Coast is a paradise for wine lovers. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or simply someone who enjoys a beautiful glass of red at sunset, these are our Top 10 local vineyards we recommend to guests who want to experience the very best of Bolgheri, Montescudaio, and the nearby villages.

🌿 1. Ornellaia (Bolgheri)

A global icon and one of the most prestigious wineries in Italy. The tasting experience is refined, intimate, and wonderfully educational. Their flagship Super Tuscan blends are unforgettable. Various tasting options are available, including evening meal experiences, and need to be reserved in advance.

🌿 2. Tenuta San Guido – Sassicaia (Bolgheri)

Home of the legendary Sassicaia, the wine that put Bolgheri on the world map. I've added it to the list despite the fact that visits are almost impossible to come by, but if you can secure a tasting, it’s a bucket‑list experience. In the absence of a visit, have a glass or two of vintage Sassicaia when you lunch or have dinner in Bolgheri village.

🌿 3. Guado al Tasso – Antinori (Bolgheri)

A beautifully run estate offering polished tastings and tours. Their amphitheater‑shaped vineyards and elegant reds make this a must‑visit. Make sure to reserve your spot in advance to either visit the cellar itself or easier is the Bottega di Guado al Tasso or their restaurant, Osteria del Tasso.

🌿 4. Le Macchiole (Bolgheri)

A boutique estate known for its expressive single‑varietal wines. Tastings are relaxed, personal, and perfect for those who want to dive deeper into Bolgheri’s modern winemaking philosophy. Various tasting experienced available from 2 to 5 different wines, and (yes, you've guessed it by now) all need reserving in advance.

🌿 5. Argentiera (Bolgheri)

One of the most scenic estates in the region, perched on hills overlooking the sea. You'll walk through the vineyard to a beautiful vantage point where you can enjoy not only great wines but also the views. Their terrace tastings at sunset are nothing short of magical.

🌿 6. Campo alla Sughera (Bolgheri)

A rising star with beautifully structured wines and a warm, welcoming tasting room. Great for visitors who want a high‑quality experience without the crowds. Offers a range of tasting experiences from the short and very reasonable 'Introduction to Bolgheri' tasting to longer and more premium ones featuring Super Tuscans and vertical tastings.

🌿 7. Le Vigne di Silvia (Bolgheri)

A small, female-led winery with a big heart. Sisters Silvia and Stefania offer guided walks through their vineyard, followed by tastings of their expressive Bolgheri DOC wines — including Giochessa Vermentino, Artemio Rosso, and Itinerante Cabernet Franc IGT — paired with fresh bread, olive oil, and local delicacies. Lunch in the vineyard itself is a wonderful option which also available. The whole experience is deeply personal, based on the family story behind the vineyard, rooted in respect for tradition and nature, and consistently earns glowing reviews. Highly recommended.

🌿 8. La Regola (Montescudaio)

Just a short drive from the villa, La Regola offers a modern cellar, organic wines, and a tasting experience that blends tradition with innovation. Their whites are especially noteworthy. Plenty of tasting experiences available to choose from.

🌿 9. Colline di Sopra (Montescudaio)

A beautifully situated estate producing elegant, terroir‑driven wines with a strong focus on organic practices which have led to their award-winning Sopra wine becoming a local hero. Their tastings range from classic tasting experiences, to more expansive ones including sunset dinners and even bike tours of the vineyard - all with a strong focus on craftsmanship and authenticity.

🌿 10. Caiarossa (Riparbella)

A biodynamic estate with a striking architectural style and a philosophy rooted in harmony with nature. Their wines are complex, expressive, and consistently praised — and the tasting experience is both serene and sophisticated.
